Since we put together our original Snackle Box, we’ve played around with a variation of goodies, especially with fruits and veggies.

Watermelon sticks, cubes, and start with cucumber, chickpeas, meat sticks and nuts.

Watermelon snackle box is sponsored by Watermelon Board.

This time we’ve put together a watermelon snackle box that’s loaded with protein. We love this blend of snacks that keeps our family always hydrated and helps our muscles recover quickly after any type of physical activity.

Every ball game, practice, and tournament we go to, we’ve got our watermelon snackle box in tow. The best part is, it’s super easy to throw together for your family’s next athletic event on the calendar.

Be sure to check out some of our delicious watermelon recipes at the end of the blog. But first, let’s dive into how to make your watermelon snackle box.

Watermelon is the Star of this Snackle Box

We love watermelon. Its beautiful pink color is appealing to the eyes (especially for our kids), and it’s made up of 92% water, making it one of the most hydrating fruits.1 That’s why we love loading up our snackle box with this super juicy fruit. It’s an easy, natural way to replenish the body with needed liquid while enjoying a refreshing snack.

Because of watermelon’s nutritional benefits, we had to build a box around this year-round fruit. You’ll love how easy it is, promise.

Ingredients

Cubed watermelon, hard-boiled eggs, cucumber sticks, nuts

Once you’ve got your snackle box, it’s pretty straightforward from there. Just slice, ball, and cut your watermelon, then add in some of your favorite protein-rich snacks and a few veggies. Then, you’re all set.

Here’s what we added to our snackle box:

Watermelon

There’s lots of watermelon in this snackle box. We made this box extra fun by cutting the watermelon into sticks, cubes, stars, and balls, all perfect for little hands to hold. And we made a fun watermelon skewer!

To find your perfect watermelon, we suggest using the Look, Lift, Turn Method:

  • Look for a watermelon that is free from bruises, gashes, pictures or dents.
  • Lift it up. At 92% water, it should feel very heavy for its size.
  • Turn it over for the ground spot, which is a soft buttery yellow (too white and it’s underripe and too orange and it will be overripe).

Veggies

We added sliced cucumbers to this snackle box for even more hydration for the athletes in your family. They are crisp, juicy, and fresh when you need a quick snack that replenishes your body with water. Look for a cucumber with smooth, dark green skin that is firm to the touch.

Protein

Protein is super important in helping active families’ muscles recover. We added chickpeas, jerky bites, hard-boiled eggs, and turkey wrapped string cheese for a high protein addition to this watermelon snackle box. It’s the perfect blend of high protein and hydration in one convenient container.

How to Make a High-Protein Watermelon Snackle Box

One of our favorite things about this snackle box is that you don’t need to cook anything. Once you’ve cut up your watermelon, it’s just a matter of putting each snack in its own little section of the snackle box.

Let’s put your snackle box together!

Step 1: Slice, Cube, Ball, and Star the Watermelon

Use a large knife to cut your watermelon in half. From there, you can cut it any way you’d like. No matter how you like your watermelon, we’ll walk you through each step.

Balled watermelon

Balled: Put the melon baller into the flesh of the watermelon and turn it 180° for a perfect ball shape. Perfect for ball games.

Watermelon sticks

Sticks: Lay one half of the watermelon flesh side down on the cutting board. Use your knife to cut one- to two-inch slices vertically, setting a few slices aside for later. Then, cut horizontally similar to a checkerboard pattern. Now you’ve got watermelon sticks!

Cubed watermelon

Cubed: Use your knife to cut one-inch cubes from a few of your watermelon sticks.

Cookie cutouts with watermelon

Cookie cutouts: Place the leftover watermelon slices that you set aside in front of you on a cutting board. Use your kids’ favorite cookie cutter to make fun shapes. We used stars and hearts. Gently push the cookie cutter into the watermelon flesh, pop the watermelon out of the cutter, and set aside.

Think of your snackle box almost like a charcuterie board. Spread the watermelon in sections around your snackle box and you’ll build on it from there.

Cucumber sticks

Step 2: Veggies

Use a knife to slice your cucumber in half lengthwise and crosswise. Depending on the size, cut three to four sections to make refreshing cucumber sticks. Place them in your snackle box.

Seasoned Chickpeas

Step 3: Protein

Add your chickpeas, jerky bites, hard-boiled eggs, and turkey wrapped cheese sticks to their own sections of the snackle box.

Feel free to add more of your favorite high-protein and hydrating snacks. This snackle box is totally customizable to what you and your kids enjoy with complete convenience for you.
