What Is Dubai Chocolate Dip?

Apple slice dipped in Dubai chocolate dip.

Dubai chocolate bars have a smooth outer chocolate shell with a rich, creamy filling, usually with pistachios and fine kataifi pastry. It’s the perfect blend of sweet, nutty, and earthy flavors in a decadent little chocolate bar.

However, we aren’t chocolatiers, we’re The Produce Moms. And since our goal is to help you get more fruits and veggies on your family’s plates, we knew this Dubai chocolate fruit dip would go perfectly with sliced apples. We took the same ingredients you would find in the original Dubai chocolate bar and layered them into a quick and easy fruit dip that you can make at home in about 30 minutes. Same crunchy, creamy, decadent texture right from your kitchen.

Classic Dubai Chocolate Ingredients

Apples, pistachio cream, kataifi, chocolate chips, cream, butter, and pistachios

Many of the ingredients for your Dubai chocolate fruit dip are probably already in your pantry, but there are a few special things you won’t want to skip in this recipe for the full experience. For a complete list of ingredients, be sure to check the ingredients list on the recipe card.

Crunch Pak® Apple Slices

There is nothing like a juicy, crisp apple, right? Crunch Pak® has a variety of apple snacks that are always picked and packaged at peak freshness. They even have bags of pre-cut apple slices. That means zero chopping. Just open the bag and put them on the serving plate with your Dubai chocolate fruit dip. Trus us, it doesn’t get any easier than that!

Kataifi

This super delicate, thread-like pastry is found in Greek and Middle Eastern dishes, both sweet and savory. We’ll break it up into smaller pieces for a delicate crunch. It looks similar to vermicelli noodles, and you can find it in the frozen section at major grocery stores.

Pistachio Cream

Pistachio cream is made with pistachios, sugar, oil, and milk or white chocolate. It is similar to a chocolate hazelnut spread. It has a thick but smooth and spreadable consistency. It’s rich, nutty, and sweet with a silky texture that adds to the luxuriousness of your Dubai chocolate dip, without any extra work. Look for the pistachio cream in the nut butter or spreads aisle at major grocery stores or online.

Tahini

Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds. It adds another layer of nutty earthiness with an extra-smooth, creamy texture to your Dubai chocolate fruit dip. The savory flavor of the tahini complements the sweetness of the chocolate beautifully. You’ll probably find tahini in the international food aisle by the Middle Eastern ingredients, or with sauces, nut butters, or condiments.

How to Make Dubai Chocolate into a Fruit Dip

Ok, now that you’ve got all of your Dubai chocolate ingredients, let’s get started! We love being in the kitchen with our kids so they get excited about what we eat as a family. Be sure to invite them to help so they can see how cultural flavors pair with sliced apples.

Melted chocolate covered with plastic wrap.

Step 1: Melt the chocolate.

First, add the heavy cream to a small saucepan over low heat until it starts to simmer for 2-3 minutes. Then, remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the chocolate chips until melted and smooth.

Next, pour the chocolate cream mixture into a large shallow dish and cover with plastic wrap. Be sure the plastic wrap rests on top of the chocolate to prevent a film from forming. Then put it in the freezer to chill for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Cook the kataifi.

While the chocolate cream mixture chills, melt the butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Then add the kataifi noodles and cook for 5-6 minutes, until golden brown and cripsy. Be sure to stir occasionally so the noodles don’t stick to the pan. Set aside 3-4 tablespoons for garnish.

Step 3: Add the pudding mix.

Next, add the instant chocolate pudding mix to a large bowl, then pour the chilled chocolate cream mixture over a fine mesh strainer into the bowl with the pudding mix. Whisk constantly while pouring, until slightly thickened and the pudding mix dissolves, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4: Prepare the pistachio cream.

In a small mixing bowl, stir the pistachio cream and water until it thins out a little bit. Then, gently fold in the kataifi, pistachios, and tahini with a spatula until everything is combined.

Step 6: Layer the fruit dip.

Next, transfer the pistachio cream mixture to a shallow serving bowl and use the spatula to smooth it into an even layer.
